Marion Ballard Joins Capacity Partners as Consultant

Marion Scattergood Ballard offers deep experience in capital campaigns, special events, board development, financial management, and technology.

She notes: "I’m really excited to be getting back to serving nonprofit clients in a professional capacity, partnering with  Mary and being a consultant again." Mary Robinson and Julie Crudele agree: "We are so happy to be working with Marion!"
For much of her career, Marion was the president of DataPlus Inc., the pioneering software firm she founded to develop fundraising and administrative software for nonprofit organizations and independent schools. Twenty-six years ago she recruited Mary Robinson, a young development director at the Washington International School, as DataPlus' first marketing director, then as her partner. Together they led an innovative company that created the first generation of major gifts prospect management software and attracted leading mission-driven organizations across the country.

Upon the successful sale of the company to Blackbaud, Inc. in 1995, Marion turned her focus to her community. As a key volunteer she co-founded Washington Area Women's Foundation. Initially she contributed the business know-how and the computers left over from DataPlus; over time she contributed to all aspects of WAWF's phenomenal growth.

Marion has served on countless boards of nonprofits in Greater Washington including Sidwell Friends School, Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, Montgomery Women, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, Friends Committee on National Legislation, and many more. Marion graduated from Smith College, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a BA in mathematics. She received an MA in mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from American University. Click here to
