Friends Community School

Challenge:

Solution:

A small, independent Quaker school in College Park, Maryland, purchased a property on which it plans to build a new state-of-the-art “green”  building. With a project cost of $6.8 million, and a history of annual gifts never exceeding $35,000, the school was in dire need of help to plan a major capital campaign. Capacity Partners performed a feasibility study and developed a comprehensive strategy for raising $2.87 million, wrote the Case for Support, conducted extensive prospect research, selected campaign management, and provided on-going support after the campaign's launch. After a leading donor stepped forward, Capacity Partners developed a 3-to-1 challenge grant proposal that motivated the entire community to stretch and raise nearly $1 million.

“We felt daunted by the idea of raising 50 times our annual giving fund in our first capital campaign. Mary’s expertise and leadership empowered our volunteers to go significantly beyond our expectations and surpass our fundraising goal.”

Mary Kate O'Neill, Campaign Chair and Board Clerk, Friends Community School
